Hi! (06/23/2008 6:46:30)

Wow, almost two years since anything new on the front page!

Good in the sense that all that was posted usually was outage notices.

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer and catching fish!

Hank

Sorry! Server went down a few days ago (two actually) and unusual for the esteemed users, nobody told me and I was out/away. Anyway, our friends over at heartlandoutdoorsman.com called me this afternoon and I slapped the server into serving again.

New Server (03/07/2006 2:33:19)

I upgraded the server last evening ... things all seem fine, but report anything that seems amiss ... new box has 160Gigs of RAID 1 goodness, along with a Gig of RAM and faster processor ... should hold us nicely for a while.

Graphic extension additions (10/12/2005 7:03:13)

It came to my attention that a number of bulletin board systems don't like images that don't end in .jpg, .gif, etc. and refuse to let you post images. So I've modified the small, large and tn scripts to allow you to stick a .jpg, .gif or .png onto the image number and still have it work. These extensions if present are chopped off before the image is processed. For example: Our typical urls for a small picture are like this: http://www.illinoiswaters.net/photos/small/13123 That still works just fine, however, if you need to for your posting system, you can now post like this and it too will work: http://www.illinoiswaters.net/photos/small/13123.jpg

I know the site was down from about 11am this morning (at least, might have been earlier) ... The server was getting absolutely pounded with some kind of worm traffic ... it looked like a variant of the worm that defaced phpBB sites last month; we were getting litterally tens of thousands of hits a minute and it crashed the database ... So I took the whole thing offline, made a backup and set about starting things back up ... even once back up the database had some corrupt tables, so there was some more repair work to do ... I think things are OK now, but there isn't much I can do about getting clobbered other than ban individual IP addresses, which I've started doing ... Just wanted to let everyone know what the scoop was.
